Inactivated Polio Vaccine - What You Need to Know - is ipv for adults

Vaccines: VPD-VAC/Polio/In-Short is ipv for adults

Adults who are at increased risk of exposure to poliovirus and who have previously completed a routine series of polio vaccine (IPV or OPV) can receive one lifetime booster dose of IPV. For additional details, consult the Polio Vaccine Information Statement and the Adult Immunization Schedule.

Adults who are traveling to areas where WPV or VDPV is actively circulating and who are unvaccinated, incompletely vaccinated, or whose vaccination status is unknown should receive a series of 3 doses: 2 doses of IPV administered at an interval of 4–8 weeks; a third dose should be administered 6–12 months after the second.

IPV may be given at the same time as other vaccinations. Because most adults were vaccinated as children, routine polio vaccination is not recommended for people ages 18 and older who live in the U.S.Author: Mary Anne Dunkin.

Adults Most adults do not need IPV because they were already vaccinated against polio as children. But some adults are at higher risk and should consider polio vaccination, including: people traveling to certain parts of the world, laboratory workers who might handle polio virus, and; health care workers treating patients who could have polio.
